After the North Cape we are going to drive to a group of islands called Lofoten. The way leads through beautiful fjords and villages. Sometimes we went by ferry to save time.
On the way, we’ve seen amazing mountains, wrapped in clouds and rests of snow.
We arrived Tromsø in the evening and slept on the caravan park in the near of Krokelvdalen.

Tromsø

Tromsø is a nice town and the largest urban area in Northern Norway. The town is wonderfully located between mountains and rivers. In the centre you’ll find a lot of old wooden houses mixed with modern architecture.
We visited the Arctic Cathedral (a modern church built in 1965) and took a walk trough the town center. Tromsø is a living town with small pubs and restaurant. The brewery “Macks Ølbryggeri” is located in Tromsø, formerly the northest brewery in the world.

Yeah, we are on the North Cape! We needed one week to drive.
The way to the North Cape was not so difficult as assumed. A long, long street, built in 1956, across a stinted landscape. A lot of camper and motorcyclists are on the way to the North Cape. Between camper and motorcyclists drove individual cyclists … dangerous.

We’ll sleep at the parking lot one night and visit the North Cape Visitors Center tomorrow. We hope the weather will be better than today …

Today, we passed the border to norway and left the EU in direction North Cape. We were a little bit nervous, we thought we had to much alcohol in our cars. But we didn’t see a border control … It was easy to pass the border.

The next stop: North Cape!

The weather is so nice in Finland, we decided to stay in Inari/Finland one more day. We washed our clothes and enjoyed the landscape 😉 …

Before we drove to Finland, we visited Töre and Umeå.

Töre

Töre is the nothernmost point of the Baltic Sea. The pictures looked like a scene from the movie “Die Olsenbande”. Sleepy, beautiful, forgotten …
What can I say about Töre? Approximately 1.000 inhabitants lives in Töre and the European route E10 passes through Töre and Tesla has built eCharger in the middle of nowhere.

Umeå

Umeå is one of the largest citys in Sweden and was the European Capital of Culture 2014, along with Riga in Latvia. There is a university town and a centre of education, technical and medical research in Sweden. Volvo has got a truck factory in Umeå.
A interesting fact is, in Umeå lives aproximatly 80,000 inhabitants and of 39,000 them are students! You can see and feel it in the town. We have visited the nice city, the old bridge, the Harbour and have eaten a burger ;-).

We slept in Gammelstad Church Town near Lulea in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Gammelstad Church Town is a couple of cottages made of wood around the church. The earliest evidence of the existence dates back to 1600 but the exact age is not known. 

In the past the cottages were only used on Sundays and during religious festivals. The inhabitants comes from the countryside around the church and could not return home the same day because of the distance and difficult traveling conditions. 

How is the Church Town used today?
The cottages are privately owned, just as they used to be, and the owners come here during church holidays, family celebrations and other events.

Today, we went to Gävle, a nice town and the capital of Gävleborg County. Gävle is the oldest town in northern Sweden with amazing old houses, called Gamla Gefle. Other interesting places are the Gävle concert hall (home of the Gävle Symphony Orchestra), Gävle Castle, Gävle Park and the Gävle Harbor.
The Swedish national public TV broadcaster, SVT, has an editorial office in the city 😉 …

By the way: The bike repairing station in Gävle park is a great idea! We have never seen something like that before before…

Today we are going to drive to Falun. The weather is rainy, so we can drive a long distance!

In the morning we went to the Supermarket and found a fantastic idea. You can charge your electric car during your shopping spree. Let’s do it in Germany!

Falun – Dalarna County, Sweden

Falun was originally famous for a copper mine and is today an nice town on the river Faluån and the capital of Dalarna County. The mine is closed since 1992 and now an open-air museum.
Falun is known for falun red. Falun red is a deep red paint, well known for its use on Swedish wooden cottages and houses.

Often we need the manual to discover the features of the car. We found features like “Standheizung”, “Active Distance Control”, “DualZone Climate Control”, “CarPlay” and other cool stuff for a comfortable trip. However, we think the car is a good compromise between comfort and camping feeling in the nature.
